SureWest revenue increases, income falls

SureWest Communications today reported its operating revenue for the three months ending Sept. 30 rose 4.3% compared to the year earlier period to $40.7 million.

At the same time, net income in the third quarter was $1.4 million, down from $7.5 million in the third quarter of 2000, in large part because of investments the company has made in its CLEC and wireless units.

Operating revenues in the company’s wireless subsidiary, SureWest Wireless, rose 135% compared to the third quarter of 2000, while customer counts increased 220% compared to third-quarter 2000 levels.
