Sprint PCS on target with rollout

ORLANDO--Sprint PCS President and CEO Charles Levine said his company is on schedule for a nationwide rollout of CDMA 1X technology this summer. The industry is waiting to see how Sprint PCS will price the service. Levine said the carrier is finalizing its pricing plans after talking with customers for months about how they would prefer to pay for data services.

Verizon Wireless, which has launched 1X technology in select areas, rolled out megabit pricing earlier this month. GPRS operators AT&T Wireless and Cingular Wireless both charge on a per megabit basis.

Wireless 2002 attendees using Sprint PCS service were plagued with blocked calls on Tuesday. Levine said some companies giving demonstrations on the show floor were poaching on Sprint PCS’s
1.9 MHz spectrum in Orlando. Some of the offending parties were shut down, though Levine declined to name the poachers.
