In addition, the carrier is confident in its endorsement of J2ME technology, because, once it is in wireless devices, consumers will be able continually to upgrade the applications they desire.

There currently are about 2.5 million Java developers worldwide that write programs for wired devices. They also are expected to write applications that will work across a variety of J2ME-enabled wireless devices. Sprint PCS plans to foster the development of J2ME applications via its application developer's program, developer's conference and J2ME application design contest.
