Sprint leases fiber from MFN

Sprint has agreed to lease metropolitan fiber in 10 U.S. cities from Metromedia Fiber Networks. The lease will allow Sprint to connect its long-distance voice, data and PCS networks and lower its local-access costs.

The fiber leased by Sprint is in Boston, Chicago, Dallas, Houston, Los Angeles, Newark, New York, Philadelphia, Seattle and Washington, D.C. In addition, the deal gives Sprint the option to expand its lease into other markets inside and outside the U.S.

The company will begin using the fiber in the second quarter of 2002. Neither the length nor the value of the agreement was disclosed.
