The new network brings the first high-speed, wireless data and Internet connections to Lima and Callao, Peru, a 2,300 square mile region with a population of over six million people. The South American network is the first to be built by Andrew for World Wide Wireless Communications (OTC BB: WLGS), which signed a potential $50 million systems integrator agreement with Andrew in March 2000.
"The world is truly becoming a global marketplace, and building broadband wireless networks is the quickest and most cost-efficient method of delivering high-speed data/Internet access," said Jim Yard, vice president of the Andrew Corp.'s Broadband Wireless Systems Group. "The system we have built in Lima and Callao puts the world at their fingertips enabling them to become global players in the worldwide economy as well as provide high-speed access to important local information."
"For the first time, companies and end users in Lima and Callao will be able to use high-speed wireless connections to exchange data files and other information with customers, suppliers, and business partners much more easily and efficiently," commented Douglas P. Haffer, World Wide Wireless Communications' CEO. "High-speed wireless access will enable companies to use the Internet to establish new regional and international distribution and marketing channels that were not previously available. The result will be more productive businesses and new opportunities to sell their products and services."
