The deal with Siemens validates PacketVideo’s business model, according to Nick Karter, vice president of infrastructure channel development at PacketVideo. It also gives the company inroads into additional markets, he said.

“This is significant because it enables us to have reach into 150 markets. We also can leverage Siemens’ system integrations,” Karter explained.

The nonexclusive deal also will benefit Siemens by giving it the ability to offer new services to its consumers, he added.

Siemens has signed agreements with about 20 operators in Europe and Asia to test the new equipment via UMTS networks later this year.
