In an intervew with the Sueddeutsche Zeitung published Wednesday, Siemens personnel director Peter Pribilla said business at the ICN division has suffered from slow sales, giving the company no choice but to cut positions.

A spokesman for Siemens, speaking to Reuters, said the company is negotiating with employee groups and has not made a final decision. However, the spokesman said if Siemens did make the cuts, the workforce most likely still would be pared through attrition.

Siemens’ ICN division builds the conglomerate’s fixed-line network equipment and employs about 50,000 workers.
