Scientific-Atlanta slashes Mexican operations
Cable TV equipment vendor Scientific-Atlanta, stung by losses stemming from the ongoing Adelphia financial debacle and a general slowdown in cable TV business, has discontinued the third production shift at its Juarez, Mexico, manufacturing facility and eliminated about 1300 positions, or 30% of the facility’s employees.

The company said that “current economic conditions” removed the need for the third shift and that it was “evaluating the need for any additional restructuring in other parts of the company due to reduced demand for our products.”
