S-A to buy European digital provider BarcoNet
Scientific-Atlanta is taking steps to bolster its international presence by purchasing BarcoNet, an end-to-end distribution equipment vendor for broadband and broadcast applications throughout Europe and Asia. BarcoNet’s core strengths include headends for integrated multimedia services, high-speed digital fiber optic backbones, network management and digital TV distribution.

S-A will pay about $154 million for all common stock shares of the Brussels, Belgium-based company. The offer, which has been approved by S-A’s board of directors and is supported by BarcoNet directors and shareholders, is expected to close in December.
