RIM gets into voice with AT&T

Research in Motion announced Tuesday that it’s getting into the voice business, unveiling a new BlackBerry handheld device that will receive voice calls in addition to its data capabilities.

RIM did not disclose a release date for the new device but said it has signed an agreement with AT&T Wireless to launch the handheld over its GSM/GPRS networks. The announcement came a day after Palm indicated it would go after RIM’s core enterprise market. Palm is releasing a new PDA that will operate over Cingular’s nationwide Mobitex packet network.
