Reports: Microsoft enters AT&T bidding war

Microsoft reportedly has agreed to back Comcast and Cox Communications in their bidding for AT&T’s cable assets to keep the cable assets from rival AOL Time Warner, which bid for AT&T’s cable network.

The Microsoft bid reflects an ongoing battle between itself and AOL Time Warner for technology and consumers. Microsoft would be a minority investor in either Comcast or Cox bids. Microsoft also is willing to invest in a separate AT&T venture, if the company holds onto its assets.

Microsoft’s investment and the bids by AOL Time Warner, Comcast and Cox are unavailable. AT&T top managers and investment counsel are expected to review the offers for Saturday’s company board meeting.
