Report: Washington commission probes 14 carriers

The Washington Utilities and Transportation Commission has filed a complaint that alleges 14 carriers failed to file interconnection agreements for state review, the Denver Rocky Mountain News reported this week. The carriers include Advanced Telecom Group, Allegiance Telecom, AT&T, Covad Communications, Electric Lightwave, Eschelon Telecom, Fairpoint Communications, Global Crossing, Integra Telecom, MCI, McLeodUSA, Qwest Communications, SBC Telecom and XO Communications. Qwest currently is appealing a $25.9 million fine imposed by Minnesota regulators in a similar case and agreed to pay $20 million to settle similar allegations in Arizona. The newspaper story quoted a Qwest spokeswoman, who said it would apply "a broad standard of what should be filed with state regulators going forward."
