Qualcomm, Nortel complete 3G mobile IP call

Qualcomm and Nortel Networks have completed an end-to-end, third-generation CDMA2000 1X mobile IP call. For the call, the companies used Qualcomm’s Code Division Multiple Access MSM5105 mobile station modem solution and Nortel’s wireless Internet infrastructure equipment.

The companies’ goal was to demonstrate the expanded data capabilities of 3G wireless networks and the ability for wireless data users to roam uninterrupted across 3G wireless packet networks.

The call was performed in Nortel’s wireless Internet interoperability lab. Qualcomm expects its MSM5105 chipset to begin shipping in the near future. The software to support Mobile IP should be available in the third quarter.
