Through this OEM agreement, Nortel will be able to incorporate Triton’s Adaptive Transmit Power control into its current line of broadband fixed wireless products.
Triton’s technology adjusts power levels to compensate for interference, allowing network operators to put more customers in a given area, while keeping them connected to the same fixed broadband wireless network.
“One thing this means is that Nortel has recognized that this is an important part of the market segment,” said Doug Campbell, vice president of sales and marketing for Triton Network Systems. “This is a vote of confidence that our product is one of quality.”
Although Nortel and other vendors most likely are working on their own solution for increasing volume capacity within broadband fixed wireless networks, not all solutions need to come from in-house, Campbell said.
“We have technology that allows for the greatest range of volume,” he said. By being able to increase volume in a certain area, network operators (those operating between 20 and 40 GHz) would be able to deploy more customers in a given area, maximizing the use of their spectrum, he continued.
