The software includes Openwave’s new mobile browser, which incorporates technology Openwave offers in Japan to take advantage of color screens and faster data networks, said Brian Dally, director of product marketing for Openwave’s Device Software Group.

Instead of painstakingly typing the same URLs on the phone’s keypad, Openwave’s new browser remembers previously typed URLs and makes predictions about what word users are typing in. The new browser also takes advantage of XHTML so developers don’t have to rewrite web pages for mobile applications.

Openwave’s download manager product delivers a Java vending machine of sorts, allowing Sprint PCS customers to download and pay for games, Internet services, ring tones and images.
