OFC: 360 first to deploy LambdaUnite mesh
Carriers’ carrier 360networks will be the first company to deploy Lucent Technologies’ LambdaUnite multiservice switch in a mesh configuration as it connects some of the regional networks it has acquired since emerging from bankruptcy. Lucent originally developed the LambdaUnite to compete with optical core switches such as Ciena’s CoreDirector when the long-haul market thrived in the late 1990s. Lucent hopes that customers who have deployed the LambdaUnite, such as Verizon Communications, will ultimately use the gear to hand off to long-haul mesh networks.
