NTT DoCoMo kicks off 4G wireless system construction

NTT DoCoMo has begun constructing an experimental system for fourth-generation packet wireless communications, which will deliver high-quality video.

The system, which will incorporate base station and mobile station equipment, will enable wireless downloads at speeds exceeding 100 Mbps. The carrier maintains this is about 260 times faster than its current 3G wireless network.

NTT DoCoMo plans to launch a 4G wireless communications system commercially by 2010.
