NRIC will establish emergency contacts, procedures and protocols that would be used to aid restoration efforts. In addition, NRIC will develop a procedure through which carriers and service providers can enter into collaborative agreements in order to restore service that has been lost due to an emergency or disaster.

Such measures are especially important in the wake of the Sept. 11 attack, said NRIC Chairman Richard Notebaert, chairman and CEO of Qwest Communications.

“Today, it has never been more important to say to the world and to our nation that we are an industry that pulls together to ensure consistent quality of service and reliability to our customers,” he said in a prepared statement.
