Nortel finishes optical network for China Telecom

China Telecom, in conjunction with Nortel Networks, announced the opening of its 15,000 km high-speed transmission network yesterday, giving China’s largest carrier massive bandwidth and levels of network intelligence, and helping drive down the cost per connected bit within the country’s telecom industry.

The network, which is based on Nortel’s optical networking equipment, spans 18 of China’s 31 provinces and covers most of the country’s developed regions. Nortel’s OPTera Long Haul 1600 Optical Line System and OPTera Connect DX optical switch were used in the network build.
