Nokia reiterates plans for Java-enabled devices

Nokia announced that, despite an uncertain market, it expects to ship 50 million Java-enabled devices next year. The company plans to double this amount in 2003.

The company was compelled to make the announcement after Ericsson said it did not see any signs of a recovery in the wireless industry next year, adding that orders for mobile Internet-enabled phones using GPRS technology had not picked up as quickly as hoped.
