Nokia launches financial software firm

Nokia announced that it plans to create a software company that will focus on promoting consumer usage of mobile devices for their banking services, such as paying bills or checking account balances.

The new firm will be called Meridea Financial Software and will employ more than 100 people in Finland by the end of next year.

Set up by Nokia, British venture capital firm, 3i, Accenture and Finland-based banking group, Sampo, Meridea is expected to offer software, based on open standards, that allows access to electronic and mobile financial services via mobile devices, the Internet and digital TV.
