Nokia’s VPN smart-card implementation is expected to let mobile users connect to a Nokia VPN gateway more easily and securely by inserting their personal smart card into the computer’s card reader and entering their PIN code. Nokia is using a PKI smart card from Setec’s SetCOS product family.

Nokia also upgraded the VPN gateways and clients to operate across networks that perform network address translation. The company expects this enhancement to allow mobile users to dial into a network from remote sites of varying networking environments.

Nokia’s enhanced VPN offering will be available on the entire portfolio of its VPN appliances by early September in North America, Europe and Asia-Pacific.
