Nextel affirms outlook

Nextel Communications today said it would meet third quarter expectations despite negative ratings from a bond-rating agency.

Standard & Poor’s yesterday revised its outlook on Nextel from “stable” to “negative” without lowering the wireless carrier’s B bond rating.

Meanwhile, Nextel officials said the company will exceed second-quarter results and is on track to add 500,000 subscribers in the third quarter. Yesterday, Nextel announced it has just top the 8 million-subscriber plateau is deploying new capacity enhancing iDEN technology from Motorola.
