Michael R. Peevey , founder and chairman of NewEnergy, has resigned from the company, effective Jan. 15, 2000, to pursue other opportunities.

"I began NewEnergy five years ago to explore the opportunities presented by the deregulation of the electric utility industry. Since then, we have grown to become the largest retail energy provider in the United States," says Peevey.

"With the purchase last fall by AES, NewEnergy entered a new phase in its corporate life. I have always found creating visions and building enterprises more fulfilling than managing, and so it has come time for me to move on to new challenges."
