The purchase, approved in the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the Northern District of California in San Francisco, includes access lines, collocation and equipment, including the routers installed at 33 POPs. AtWork, which focused most of its efforts on providing dedicated T-1 and T-3 services in Tier 1 markets, represents a slight change from New Edge’s traditional customer base, which is heavily populated with customers in Tier 2 and Tier 3 cities.

Dan Moffat, president and CEO of New Edge Networks, views the acquisition as an expansion of the company’s capabilities and not necessarily a strategy shift.

“Our focus is on premium broadband, so we needed a footprint in the metro market for our multi-site customers,” said Moffat.
