NetNumber’s ENUM Services, which help transition telecom services to IP networks by developing a standard for single-number identification, and Indigo’s Session Initiation Protocol (SIP)-based product, Indigo SIP Solutions, will be combined to deliver Internet communications services to service providers.

NetNumber makes Resolver software and software developer kits available to integration partners. Companies use those interface specifications to have their equipment provision numbers into the directory and to query the directory for registration status.

NetNumber’s ENUM system is in trials with companies that are making the various infrastructure components for voice-over-IP (VoIP) telephony so people can communicate end-to-end via IP technology, said Glenn Marschel, CEO of NetNumber.

“Most IP technology that’s been deployed today for VoIP is in the backbone--it doesn’t reach the edges,” Marschel said. “The next big breakthrough in terms of cost savings and the ability to integrate future applications is to take voice over IP all the way out to the edges, and companies like Indigo are very involved in making that happened.”

NetNumber develops partnerships to help alleviate compatibility issues with current VoIP technology and to get involved in all points of the VoIP value chain, Marschel said.

“We’re working with companies all the way up and down the line to make them ENUM-enabled, so, as these endpoints get developed and deployed, they can find one another, and, therefore, you can get the economic savings available from end-to-end voice over IP,” he said.

NetNumber’s partners include companies such as Indigo, Nextone Communications, Sonus Networks and SS8 Networks.

NetNumber expects to deliver its ENUM service to customers by the end of the third quarter.
