MyCall is built on NetCentrex’ CCS application softswitch and MCS media control server. It allows for the delivery of multi-media applications on the same platform as voice services.

In addition to switching and call control, MyCall enables the major Class 5-type services as well as E-911 and legal intercept. It also supports H.323, session initiation protocol (SIP) and media gateway control protocol (MGCP). It also supports service creation, provisioning and management as well both IP phones and analog handsets.

“There really isn’t a feature war anymore. We reached feature parity with the 40 or 50 top Class 5 features you need to emulate, so it’s the combination of applications that matters,” said Brian Mahoney, director of marketing at NetCentrex.

MyCall will work with any broadband access technology. However, FastWeb is using it to deliver voice, Internet and on-demand video services over its optical IP network. FastWeb offers 10 Mbps, third-generation broadband Internet access based on Ethernet to residential users.

“FastWeb was able to prove conventional wisdom wrong that you can’t make money on fiber-to-the-home or to the building because they are doing it quite well,” Mahoney said. “They have over a 20% takes rate where they offer service.”

The MyCall implementation at FastWeb was completed in four months by NetCentrex’ system integration partner, Hewlett-Packard Consulting and Integration. In addition to traditional features such as local number portability and alternate call routing, FastWeb used MyCall to build services such as multiple call forward, pre-call announcements, and self-service provisioning.

FastWeb claims it has the largest pure VoIP residential and business telephony deployment in the world with more than 100,000 users.
