Net2000 officials said the weakening economy has forced the company to take cost-cutting measures. Along with the layoffs, Net2000 will close its sales office in Philadelphia, leaving the company with eight sales and operations facilities in its Northeast and Mid-Atlantic footprint.

Net2000 also said it has been able to take advantage of reduced prices for network capacity and has improved its own provisioning time for new customers.
