Nelson named to joint board on universal service

Michigan state Commissioner Bob Nelson last week officially became a member of the FCC’s Federal-State Joint Board on Universal Service, which is responsible for implementing the universal-service provisions included in the Telecommunications Act of 1996.

Nelson was nominated for the position in May by Stan Wise, a Georgia state commissioner and president of the National Association of Regulatory Utility Commissioners (NARUC). In addition to his service to the state of Michigan, Nelson serves on NARUC’s Consumer Affairs Committee and is chairman of the Telecommunications Committee.
