NCTA: MetroCast to trial Cedar Point VoIP gear

NEW ORLEANS--

New England-based cable service provider MetroCast will use this summer and fall to try out Cedar Point Communications’ integrated carrier-class cable telephony system in systems passing 90,000 homes in Belmont and Rochester, N.H. and Sanford, Maine. Other trial participants will include C-Cor.net’s Worldbridge Technical Services division and Lambert Communications Corp.

The trial will focus on Cedar Point’s ability to deliver the carrier-class attributes of a Class 5 voice switch with the elements in distributed VoIP networks in a CableLabs’ PacketCable-based voice switching chassis.

Cedar Point began lab trials of its technology, now named Safari C3 with Comcast last November.
