Natural Gas Prices in Mexico Remain Regulated

The Mexican government must continue to benchmark its natural gas prices with those in Houston. Mexican Energy Minister Ernesto Martens says in negotiations under the North American Free Trade Agreement that the country is committed to doing so for eight years. He also says that if Mexico were to sidestep any previously set agreements it would be guilty of dumping practices. As a result, Mexico cannot currently meet demands of business leaders. Natural gas production in Mexico is monopolized by state-owned energy conglomerate Petroleos Mexicanos.
