Motorola, Siemens reportedly talk joint venture

Motorola and Siemens reportedly are considering a joint venture for either their wireless-infrastructure operations or their handset businesses, or both.

The companies could create ventures with a total value of between $20 billion and $25 billion. This potential pairing comes on the heels of mobile phone joint venture launch by Sony and Ericsson.

Motorola and Siemens began talking at the beginning of the summer, but a deal is not considered imminent. If the companies do set up two ventures, they most likely would share control, with Siemens being in charge one venture and Motorola in charge of the other.
