MCI today said it has sent has the world’s fastest IP transmission over a domestic network, achieving 40 GB/s of throughput between two routers located in San Francisco and San Jose, Ca. The trial took place over MCI’s new DWDM optical IP network, transmitting over a single wavelength using an OC-768c interface and StrataLight’s OTS-4000 Optical Terminal Subsystem. MCI said 40 Gb/s is the equivalent of multicasting 2000 HDTV video streams simultaneously and is four times faster than today’s fastest IP networking connection.
