MCI is still receiving government work

MCI, nee WorldCom, has received more than $100 million in government work in the three months since the U.S. General Services Administration barred it from receiving new contracts from federal agencies by exploiting a loophole that allows existing contracts to be renewed, the Washington Post has reported. Moreover, the U.S. Department of Justice has requested a waiver that would allow it to consider the carrier for a "major telecommunications contract" to be awarded at the first of the year, the paper said. Policymakers and critics have criticized the federal government for not enforcing the GSA ban, said the paper, which also quoted an MCI executive who said, "It is hard to come to a grinding halt," given the sheer volume of government work the company does.
