Citing unnamed sources close to the negotiations, the Journal reported that Furukawa is talking about reducing Lucent’s price by 10% but negotiations are still ongoing and no final price has been set.

The structure of the deal also is in question, according to the Journal. Under the original deal, Furukawa would buy the unit and then form a joint venture with CommScope to operate parts of the new division. The agreement also had Corning taking over Lucent’s interests in two Chinese fiber operations.
