BRIEFS
MidCore Software, a developer of subscription-based Internet
software, is introducing a new release of its MidPoint Internet gateway
software at Comnet this week. MidPoint 5.0 includes improved firewall
capabilities, and the ability to run with one or multiple types
Internet access solutions, including DSL, analog, cable, T1, E1, and
others.
The new software is being offered
on a basic subscription service as well as optional advanced services
targeted to small and medium business enterprises. The optional
advanced services include Broadband Line Teaming, VPN and Distributed
Web Hosting.
David Wilson, president of MidCore, said software
licensing is moving away from traditional perpetual licensing and
toward subscription and term licensing because it gives users greater
flexibility and lowers their cost of licensing the software.
