Anritsu and SAN Valley Systems have announced they will provide end-to-end networking that integrates Fibre Channel-based storage area network (SAN) data and LAN data over MAN/WAN links at maximum speeds of 2.5 Gb/s. By using SAN Valley’s SL1000 IP-SAN gateway to transport storage data to Anritsu’s Multiflow 5000 switch family, the solution is designed to allow data to be backed up to remote locations as if the transfer was being done locally, according to Jack Landau, director of marketing for Anritsu.

“The beauty of this is that the customer is sharing this expensive MAN/WAN infrastructure between the SAN and the LAN…instead of just using it for the LAN and having to build a separate link for the storage path,” Landau said.

MidCore Software, a developer of subscription-based Internet software, is introducing a new release of its MidPoint Internet gateway software at Comnet this week. MidPoint 5.0 includes improved firewall capabilities, and the ability to run with one or multiple types Internet access solutions, including DSL, analog, cable, T1, E1, and others.

The new software is being offered on a basic subscription service as well as optional advanced services targeted to small and medium business enterprises. The optional advanced services include Broadband Line Teaming, VPN and Distributed Web Hosting. David Wilson, president of MidCore, said software licensing is moving away from traditional perpetual licensing and toward subscription and term licensing because it gives users greater flexibility and lowers their cost of licensing the software.
