Known as ControlSwitch, open softswitch is designed to allow carriers to offer customers advanced services that generate greater profits while providing five-9s reliability that is an inherent responsibility of the large carriers that ipVerse is targeting, according to Ed Camarena, director of product marketing for ipVerse.

“Where everything is headed is a point where it’s all an IP or packet-based network…but it’s not happening overnight,” Camarena said. “You still need to provide connectivity from any user to any user, regardless of the network.”

Yesterday, the company announced that NTT Comware Corp--a subsidiary of Japanese telecom giant NTT--will use the ControlSwitch to deploy advanced network services.

“After an extensive search for carrier-grade, next-generation solutions, we feel confident ipVerse ControlSwitch is the best platform to deliver a solution that has the reliability, as well as the flexibility and interoperability required to converge our customers’ separate voice and data networks,” said Ryoji Horisaka, director of systems integration headquarters for NTT Comware. “It can easily interwork with a variety of legacy and next-generation equipment for many vendors and ultimately provide our customers with new revenue opportunity from enhanced services.”

In addition to giving service providers the ability to offer premium services, the ipVerse solution is scalable for large networks, Camarena said. Web-based provisioning tools are designed make it easy for service providers to upgrade and managed their networks.

These features are available for much less than the overall costs associated with a Class 4 or Class 5 switch. Currently, ipVerse’s softswitch does not provide the lifeline and wiretapping services required by regulators in a Class 5 switch, but those functions are expected to be offered on the ControlSwitch by the end of the year, Camarena said.
