Ice Storm Leaves 200,000 Without Power

More than 200,000 residents of east Texas, Arkansas and northwest Louisiana woke up on Christmas to find their homes without power, thanks to an ice storm. AEP-Southwestern Electric Power Co.’s 40-plus transmission lines were locked out by the storm, leaving 89,000 customers in the dark.

The storm also knocked out power for 49,000 Entergy Arkansas customers. Many of the outages coming from frozen tree branches falling on power lines.

According to an AEP-Southwestern spokesperson, the storm is unlikely to ease up, and could possibly leave residents without power for the days to come.
