Georgia commission rules against BellSouth on DSL strategy

The Georgia Public Service Commission has told BellSouth that it no longer can force customers who wish to purchase its DSL service to also take its local voice service, a decision that benefits CLECs and voice-over-IP providers in the state. A spokesman for VoIP provider Vonage called the strategy "an unlawful attempt by BellSouth to reassert its local voice monopoly in Georgia." A BellSouth spokeswoman said the carrier's attorneys were reviewing the order.
