Fortinet strikes Series D gold in hot security market

Fortinet’s ASIC-powered, network-based antivirus firewall systems have proved attractive to investors, who pumped another $30 million into the company this week. The Series D round was led by Redpoint Ventures, who was joined by Meritech Capital Partners as new investors. The company has now raised $43 million since it was founded in  2000 by CEO Ken Xie, who also founded NetScreen. John Walecka, founding partner at Redpoint Ventures is joining Fortinet's board of directors. Fortinet's FortiGate series of ASIC-accelerated antivirus firewalls are next-generation protection systems that detect and eliminate damaging, content-based threats from e-mail and Web traffic such as viruses, worms, intrusions, inappropriate Web content and more in real time.
