FCC sets rules for 900 MHz auction

The Federal Communications Commission today issues its guidelines for the auction of specialized mobile radio service licenses scheduled for February 11, 2004. The 900 MHz band is used primarily by providers of paging and voice mail services, but also is used by some carriers to fill-in holes in their geographic footprints. "The band is used for a lot of 'leftover stew' uses," said FCC spokesman Lyle Ishida.
