FCC reorganizes wireless bureau

The Federal Communications Commission announced this week that it has reorganized its Wireless Telecommunications Bureau into six units that mirror the commission's strategic goals. The units include: the Auctions and Spectrum Access Division, which will have a hand in the evolution of FCC spectrum policies, conduct auctions and transition spectrum to new uses; the Broadband Division, will try to spur widespread deployment of wireless broadband services to both rural and urban markets; the Mobility Division, which will promote competitive mobile radio technologies and efficient spectrum use by that sector; the Public Safety and Critical Infrastructure Division, which will focus on homeland security and public safety issues; the Spectrum and Competition Policy Division, which will help develop policies to promote access to and efficient use of spectrum, and to encourage competition in the wireless sector; and the Spectrum Management Resources and Technologies Division, which combines the FCC's information technology, licensing support and auctions support functions.
