The agreement calls for Everest to reserve 100 Mb/s of bandwidth connectivity in 38 network locations in these cities. Telseon service providers wishing to provide services to enterprise customers in MTU buildings will be able to purchase bandwidth on a wholesale basis from Everest.

In addition, Everest will be able to resell content distribution, voice-over-IP, videoconferencing and other data services available from Telseon service providers.

According to Dana Tardelli, research analyst at the Aberdeen Group, the deal is “definitely good news all around, for Everest, for Telseon and--more importantly--for customers in the MTU space,” because it represents a further elimination of the last-mile bottleneck.

“Everest has the agreements in the buildings, and they can get to the manhole, while Telseon offers glass at optical speeds,” he said. “The result is they’re able to bring the local POP (point of presence) even closer to the building. In effect, the last mile is eliminated. Now, we’re talking about the ‘last few feet.’”
