Equant nabs $7 million frame relay deal
The industry may be swirling with negativity and investigations, but, some contracts are still coming through for service providers despite the carnage. Equant Communications today revealed that it has secured a $7 million, five-year contract to provide frame relay services to IT-Austria, an IT provider based in Vienna, Austria.

The frame relay service will provide 45 Mb/s connectivity between local, regional or global sites for IT-Austria. IT-Austria intends to use the frame services to enhance its international presence.
“Frame relay continues to be our largest revenue earner,” said an Equant spokesman. In contrast though, IP VPNs represent the largest growth segment for the provider.
In addition to the IT-Austria deal, the spokesman said, “there are several more in the pipeline.” The coming contracts involve a mixture of Equant's services, such as frame relay, security and managed firewalls.
So far some of those wins are coming from the misfortune of others. The company has won over several customers from providers such as WorldCom and KPNQwest, the spokesman said.
