El Paso Energy Cuts Workforce
After completion of its merger with The Coastal Corp., El Paso Energy Corp. restructured the company, reducing its workforce by at least 3,285 people.

Some employees left voluntarily and about 1,635 people took early retirement packages. Another 1,650 employees were terminated, although 585 of those people will remain with the company until their current assignments are completed, none to last later than June 30, 2001.
