Using the Siemens brand (Efficient was acquired by Siemens last year), the se5940 integrates six different products into a single box. The 5930, which will carry the Efficient brand, is an extension of the company’s existing ADSL router but integrates a number of options including a back-up dial modem.
The introductions of both products come at a precarious time with the T-1 prices slumping and carriers slashing capital expenses. However, according to Todd Tatum, product line manager for Efficient’s business solutions division, the company has an advantage having previously served smaller end users.
“T-1s are down to $499 per month in some markets,” he said. “It’s not the same market as before, and these customers have different needs. Most of our competitors started from the high end and worked their way down. They don’t know these customers the same way we do.”
