DynamicSoft software routes IP calls to PSTN

According to the company, the software allows carriers to route calls from IP-based devices to the PSTN (termination services) as well as assign phone numbers to IP devices so they can receive regular phone calls (origination services).

It is based on the SIP standard. This is important, because it allows carriers to generate revenues from termination and origination services today while laying the groundwork to deliver SIP-enabled converged services—such as Internet call waiting and Web chat—tomorrow, says Joan Spindel, Dynamicsoft’s vice president of marketing.

“SIP fosters interoperability and velocity of innovation,” she said. “It mimics the PSTN, but it is an open, flexible IP-based standard that is about initiating sessions. Rather than voice phone calls. SIP has emerged because H.323 has hit some roadblocks, because it didn’t grow out of a Web world.”

The Termination/Origination Solution is based on DynamicSoft’s “Service Delivery Architecture,” introduced last month, which is designed to allow service providers to migrate to multiservice, IP-based networks.

A key concept of the architecture is the decoupling of communications applications from the transport network, which makes it easier to develop new services. According to the company, service providers using this architecture will be able to support traditional telephony as well as converged services on the same network infrastructure.

“True convergence is an important goal,” Spindel said. “It’s about a network that allows all of the telephony services we’ve grown to love as well as the Internet services we’ve grown to enjoy.”
