NET-36’s satellite-to-edge content delivery network and DirecPC’s broadband network will supplement DirecPC’s services with multimedia content and provide NET-36 with a true nationwide footprint.
Through this relationship, NET-36 now has access to half of North American broadband households via satellite-to-edge servers with the ability to stream content via DirecPC regardless of location.
“This agreement with HNS will allow DirecPC’s users to access streaming media content served by the NET-36 satellite-to-edge network,” said Bill Moses, PanAmSat senior vice president and president of NET-36. “The NET-36 satellite-to-edge architecture bypasses up to 95 percent of Internet congestion points and makes content accessible to broadband households nationwide. A number of leading content providers such as Bloomberg and FashionTV are already delivering high-fidelity content to the ‘true’ edge using NET-36.”
“This relationship underscores DirecPC’s charter to provide subscribers with an exceptional wireless broadband experience,” said Paul Gaske, executive vice president and general manager of Hughes Network Systems, North America. “As a satellite-based broadcast network, NET-36 is the ideal partner to help us achieve this goal and offer our subscribers and partners the high-quality video and audio fidelity made possible by NET-36.” Using a compact satellite dish and universal serial bus-connected modem, DirecPC provides high-speed Internet access and offers streaming media such as video at Mbps speeds. The addition of DirecPC as a NET-36 last-mile provider enables any DirecPC household in the United States with a view of the southern sky to access the content of the NET-36 network.
