Cybera is targeting small and medium-sized businesses with its services such as private networking and secure Internet access. The provider is able to offer those services at 50% to 80% less than other frame relay or IP VPN services, according to Jeff Good, chief marketing officer at Cybera.

“Because the CoSine technology is agnostic to the customer’s access technology, we can turn them up quickly,” Good said. Additionally, that drives down both operational and capital expenses for the provider, he said.

Cybera had looked at Nortel’s Shasta equipment, Lucent’s Springtide box and Redback’s equipment, but decided on the CoSine gear primarily because of its virtual routing technology, according to Good.

“We could put lots of virtual routers in the environment,” he said. “And others weren’t as advanced with Layer 2 technologies.”

So far, Cybera has 1200 sites connected and is adding around 150 per month.
